E198: The Power of Positivity and Intention when on a health journey
As a fellow busy mom who has danced with negativity and its impact on my health, I, understand how daunting the journey to wellness can seem. Imagine though, a nudge from the cosmos itself, gently steering you toward a single healthy habit that begins to unravel the complexities of a healthier lifestyle. This episode of our podcast is just that—a heartfelt narration of my own experiences with these universal signs and how recognizing them has helped me combat the overwhelm. I'll take you through the stories of common themes and repeated messages that might be more than mere coincidence, and share how a shift in mindset sparked by Mel Robbins inspired me to embrace joy in my pursuit of well-being.
Turning the lens inward, we'll explore the profound Power of Intention and its role in our health journey. I had an epiphany that I was my biggest obstacle and that honoring commitments to oneself is just as critical as those we make to others. Through candid reflection, I'll discuss the burden of negative thoughts, the liberation of mental decluttering, and the subsequent physical transformation that follows. Drawing strength from Mel Robbins' wisdom, this episode is an invitation to choose a life marked by joy, gratitude, and intentionality. Whether you're seeking to improve your health, relationships, or any other facet of life, come find motivation and practical steps to conquer self-sabotage and negativity, setting you on a path to the happiness and success that's waiting for you.

Speaker 1:Hey there, happy Monday and welcome back to another episode of Hot Mess Mom Health. Thank you for tuning in and spending some time with me today. I'm so grateful that you are here listening from all over the world. It is just such a cool thing Just coming off of being at PodFest and being in rooms with all kinds of creators from all across the world, with such an awesome experience, just knowing that people are getting their voices out, being heard and just having a creative outlet to help others, which is, I think, what most podcasters' goals like, what they want to do this for. Thank you so much for tuning in.
Speaker 1:Like I said, and today I kind of want to share with you guys something that it's like one of those things where you start doing something and it's like you start only hearing or seeing the same thing over and over again. To back this up a little bit, for my 40th birthday, I got the words choose joy tattooed on my wrist. So for those of you listening that might know me personally, I have, I don't want to say, a problem, but, I guess, a problem with being negative or straying, to look at the negative side of things a little bit too easy, and it is something that I am working on, something that I work on every single day. Right, and it's not easy, because that's just kind of like my generalized mood is always negative and like why me? Why is this happening? Like frustration, you know, I do it with work. I do it with my personal life. I kind of do it. It's kind of like my vibe and I know it's not good and it's not serving me. And I wanted to do this episode, not necessarily to say, if you're negative, don't be like me, but yeah, don't be like me but just to let you guys know like I'm here. I'm not perfect. I have my own struggles and I believe that some of these other struggles like me being negative is holding me back with my health, is holding me back in my life dreams.
Speaker 1:And for you, listening, if you have something that is on your heart, if you have some health issues and you are just like frustrated with not being able to achieve your goals, I think this is relatable in the sense that Over this past couple days this week, when I was away at pot vest, I kept having the same theme come up and I don't know if you can relate to this, but there'll be moments in time where you just kind of like get discouraged about something, and maybe it is your health journey, maybe you just are so frustrated with your dieting. You can't seem to lose the weight, you were unmotivated to go to the gym, all the things. But yet these common threads come up over and over again. Maybe it's someone mentioning that they just joined Plain of Fitness down the street, or your doctor telling you that you're borderline pre-diabetic or something just the common things. Maybe it's a commercial that's talking about Peloton and it's just like you feel like the universe is trying to tell you something. And for me it kind of started like last week Just feeling really frustrated with you know my generalized mood about things and kind of how I'm looking at the world and Knowing that this is something I want to work on.
Speaker 1:I listen to the Mel Robbins podcast a lot and she, her, her backgrounds and all the things that she kind of emotionally goes through I relate to so well. And On the airplane ride that I just took over the past week she had released an episode on January 15th and I will I will link this episode in the show notes and it was called the secret to success and happiness nobody talks about. And when I tell you, like halfway through the episode I had chills. I felt like she was speaking in the microphone directly to me about her journey with not being happy and all of things that kept her from and how it held her back and I think this really just sat with me and made me kind of like unsettled, if you will. And Once we got to Podfest, you know, I shared with my husband, who came with me, and I kind of told him I was like, oh my god, like it's almost like you should listen to this, because she was talking to your wife. It's really kind of creepy, but I related so well to all the things she was saying and just how we allow ourselves Hold us back from where we want to be so much. So that was kind of the first thing and it was like it was kind of like setting the stage for like a lot of other things that happened.
Speaker 1:But I have the IM app that I told you about many episodes ago. It's a great app. If you want to just download it, it sends positive affirmations to you and it was just so crazy. The whole time I was away, like every positive affirmation that came through was about being happier and Having a more positive look on life, and not that it isn't always kind of steering positive, because obviously they're positive affirmations, but they were just like driving home the message that my Robbins had in that podcast, like hitting me over the head, hitting me over the head, like I think I have mine going. Like every three hours something comes through. And I was like, oh my god, like the universe is trying to tell me something you know.
Speaker 1:And then we went to a workshop during this convention and Something that the gentleman said Really like again gave me chills, was just sitting deep down inside of me saying, like well, rebecca, like, if this isn't the wake-up call that you need, I don't know what's gonna help you. You know, and what it was, was this guy mark his definition of intention. Do you live a life with intention? Are you intentional with your thoughts? Are you intentional with your actions? And he asked the room Are you intentional with your actions for others? And everybody raises their hand right, yes, I'm intentional. My actions for others, you know, putting other people first, doing everything you can for everybody else, like if you're a busy mom like me, like that's how you live your life, almost in service to everyone else around you. And Then he asked are you intentional with the actions and what you promise to yourself? Almost nobody raises their hand. I think maybe three or four people raise their hand, even the guys in the room. And I was like oh my god, here we are again.
Speaker 1:So his definition of intention is Keeping the promises that you make to yourself. Are you intentional with the actions that you're doing for yourself? And a lot of times you know we all have really great intentions, but how good are you at keeping them for yourself? I talked a lot about this in the podcast before. There is 1000% truth behind what you speak, coming into action and then doing it, and that whole change is repetitive action. Of that. It's like putting money in the bank right, putting money in your bank and then you cash out those rewards later on. Right, whether it's losing weight, whether it's putting on muscle, whether it's getting better sleep gives you more energy. You know how you feel your bite, whatever those little coins that you are putting in that bank. Their words right, and we want to be able to cash out one day. But if you continuously go to the bank With no coins, you have nothing to pull from. You're just constantly offering the world to others and not yourself. So he was really big on being intentional with our own actions, being intentional with our words, and that ultimately makes you happier and helps you fulfill your dreams.
Speaker 1:So I want to relate this back to Health and Wellness and, like I said, this really just this week hit me over the head and made me realize that the only person, the only person that is keeping you and me from whatever it is that you want, is you right? We can sit here and I can sit here and make a thousand excuses on why I didn't have time and why that didn't work out, and I can list all the negative reasons why that didn't go the way it should have. And you know, if you're out there listening on a health journey, you can list all the excuses of why you didn't have time to meal prep, or you didn't have time to give your kids better meals, or you didn't have time to go to the grocery store, or you didn't have time to make it to the gym this week, or all the things right. We all are good at excuses. I am good excuses. We all are at certain times of our life.
Speaker 1:Yes, give yourself grace, depending upon the season you're in. However, when I look myself in the mirror and when you look yourself in the mirror, are you being intentional with the words that you say? Are you keeping the promises that you make to yourself really looking at yourself in the mirror and asking yourself if you are, because I think the thread between happiness and intention were very clear to me this week very clear and something that I'm going to do, starting this moment and starting I've been working on already this week is working on how I can change my thoughts and how I can change my attitude. It's not going to be easy. It is not. I literally have choose joy tattooed on my wrist and it's been there for almost two years and I still struggle with this every single day. However, there are other aspects of my life that I know.
Speaker 1:I'm saying things that are steering me negative and they're holding me back and, in full transparency, I am not the weight I want to be. I would love to be seven to 10 pounds fitter I won't say thinner, but fitter. I would like to put more muscle on and I would like to lean out, but I believe that the negativity that I'm holding and the fact that I get in my own head so much is probably the weight loss that I need. That's the weight that I need to leave and maybe that's something for you, maybe that's something that you're holding on to, that you need to release the weight of before the body stuff can happen. You know, stress, intention, saying out loud what you're going to do and keeping those promises to yourself. We are all so good keeping promises we make to others and making sure we check all those boxes, but how many times are you being intentional in regards to yourself? So all that, to kind of say.
Speaker 1:I think that the lessons that I've learned this week can relate to anyone period on any journey, but specifically in regards to health, because I think the hard truth, the hard truth is that we all are our own worst enemies sometimes. And I forget exactly what Mel Robin said, but I encourage everyone out there listening to, please go listen to the episode. I think if you struggle with finding the dark side or bad side or negative side of things, like I do which I know a lot of people that are like that and it's like Misery Loves Company, right. So if you're overweight, it's kind of like Misery Loves Company, that's all, go out and eat the fast food and the ice cream all the time. And if we're not happy with the way we're feeling and the way we look, and that can feel something.
Speaker 1:But if you're being intentional, saying I want a better life, I want to feel better for my kids, I want to sleep, get more sleep and be energized and all these things. Maybe it's a career change. Whatever it is, you are the only person that can change it and you really have to look yourself in the mirror and say am I keeping those promises that I'm making to myself? Because if I look at myself in the mirror, sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. Say that, right, and that's just being honest and being real. And I do believe that this surface level negativity, it's actually holding us all down right and maybe it's keeping you in a level that you're never going to break through that glass if you don't drop the negativity.
Speaker 1:And whether it's weight loss or getting that new promotion or finding your husband or, you know, having another child, whatever it is that you're looking for in life, you deserve to have it and I want you to have it and I want myself to have it. I want us all to have everything that we all dream of and I know for me this past week it was just so eye-opening hearing like the constant repetition of choose happiness, look at happiness, be more grateful, be more intentional, and this whole Mel Robbins podcast. It's like. It's like chills, like I said, in my entire body because it's almost like she was like okay, I'm hitting you over the head, let's go get your act together. And it was exactly what I needed to hear in that moment, and I think it's really going to help shape the rest of my year because, like it's early in the year, guys it's still January we have plenty of time to carve our paths and get all of the things that we want.
Speaker 1:So, in closing, I hope this episode find you well. I hope this episode helped you and I hope you go listen to my Robbins podcast. I will, like I said, put it in the show notes. It is. That episode is one of my favorites and I think that it will help you too. If you steer towards negativity or just looking for a boost to move you in the right direction, this one will help you have a great week. Thank you so much for tuning in and listening to this episode of Hot Mess Mom Health. If you'd love this episode, please leave me an iTunes review.
