Speaker 1:Another week I am gonna give you guys the breakdown of kind of my go-to snacks. Break it up into either like a savory type of snack or a sweet type of snack, but basically what I do when I'm looking for something to snack on is look for something that's either gonna give me some fiber, something that's gonna give me more protein, but also give me, like, that fix that I need. So, obviously, nothing's perfect and, yes, you're gonna eat the brownie at times, yes, you're gonna have the birthday cake, whatever, but these are all things that are completely gonna keep you on track. They're not gonna make you feel like you overindulged, but they're going to give you that fix that you're looking for. And I thought I would share what I eat, because I find a lot of times when I'm eating something or when I'm talking about eating something, everyone's like, oh my gosh, I never would have thought to eat that or oh, how are they? Because I haven't tried that yet. So I thought I would just share with you guys kind of my go-to items when I'm either looking for a savory, salty type of snack or, like I said, a sweet snack.
Speaker 1:So, in no particular order, these are kind of my go-to items. Number one is gonna be a chomps beef stick. So these are my favorite. Anybody that knows me probably always sees me with these, but I always have like one in my bag, one in my car. They're always stocked in my pantry. They have really great flavors, really great taste. My favorite is the taco, definitely by far it's my favorite. But they do have some turkey pepperoni sticks, a lot of beef flavors, and they're really good. So that's like always gonna be with me like forever, because they're like nine or 10 grams of protein, 80 to 100 calories and they just kind of give you like a good taste and add some protein to your life as well. All right, a sweet option, I.
Speaker 1:So this has taken me a lot of time, like a lot of time, because I do like lemon yogurt, but I am a complete plain Greek yogurt girl. Now I've gotten away from any flavors, anything with the like fake sugars, real sugars, all the flavoring. Now I just eat plain, 0%. Sometimes I'll go with the 5% fat Greek yogurt and I put fresh berries on it or I'll just literally eat it plain. Sometimes which, if you've listened to past episodes, I have a little obsession with whipped cream that I am recovering from. But sometimes I will put a little bit of whipped cream like ready whipped blue can only, if you're going to do it, go blue can and that just gives me enough. Like this makes me feel like I just consumed. You know, like sometimes the yogurt's are like, I think, 16 to 20 grams of protein and, with some fresh berries, really gives you that sweet fix. And, trust me, if you are listening to this and you are a yogurt fan but you like the flavored yogurt, I feel you. It's taken me some time to wean myself off of that, but I will say that I actually enjoy the taste of plain Greek yogurt now, but it wasn't something that I flipped a switch on right away, like it took some time. But putting any type of fresh berries, like maybe you freeze some even if you freeze some fruit, wild blueberries are really good. We're also playing cottage cheese. I am not a cottage cheese fan, but I do know a lot of people that eat plain cottage cheese with some berries on it. And, again, higher protein and it's going to give you that sweet fix that you're looking for.
Speaker 1:Another savory option is going to be lesser evil popcorn Very clean ingredients. I love this brand for so many different reasons, but their popcorn is so good. They have a new garlic parmesan popcorn, they have a cheddar popcorn and they have a popcorn made with just coconut oil. They may have one with me would just ski. So so, so good, good quality product. The only negative to this popcorn is you could eat the entire bag in a sitting. So I have gotten really good about like portioning it out, because otherwise it just mindlessly eat the entire bag and you know, although delicious, plenty of popcorn you didn't really need so and it does have some fiber in it. So it's good and I do. I feel good about eating it because it's clean ingredients and it gives me that savory fix for sure. Another option and this is maybe like a no brainer, but just like a reminder cheese sticks are great protein source If you can handle dairy.
Speaker 1:Hard boiled eggs. I used to love eating hard boiled eggs. I have given up eggs due to my acne, but hard boiled eggs are a great go to snack, high in protein, filling. You know salt and pepper on them and they're they're great to go carry with you, always having your house things like that. Another one which I don't know might seem weird to some of you, but it's like one of my go tos. It's an avocado, like half an avocado, and shredded chicken. So I tend to make a crock pot full of shredded chicken over the weekend and what I'll do is just throw some shredded chicken on top of the avocado with some salt and pepper and maybe even a little olive oil if I want to have a little bit of extra fat, but it's so filling and it's so savory. It just like meets checks all my boxes for that and it takes like two seconds because I already had the chicken done. If you buy like a rotisserie chicken, you know it could almost be like a lunch or it could be like an addition to your lunch, but it really helps me and makes me feel full and satisfied. Alright, another one. I'm not really sure how to pronounce this, but it's wild W, I, l, d, e protein chips and these are chips made with like egg whites and they're high in protein, but they, when I they first came out, I did not like some of the flavors, but now I don't know if they've enhanced everything, but it's pretty clean ingredients, high protein, savory snack.
Speaker 1:But they have like a pink salt Sea salt and vinegar, chicken and waffles flavor, a natural hot flavor and a buffalo, which the buffalo is my favorite and they're good, they're really good. They get that crunchy, sweet fix. You could even like make almost like nachos out of these, put them on the bottom and you can put like some shredded cheese, some shredded chicken, put a bunch of veggies on it and Put them in the pop in the toaster oven and you could literally make nachos out of them if you wanted to. So highly suggest, like checking them out I think it's pronounced wild, but it's W? I, l, d, e and their protein chips.
Speaker 1:Another option is pork rinds. You know, like pork rinds are higher in protein. They're gonna give you some healthy fats. Try to look for ones with clean ingredients. Discipline sea salt I tend to like the epic brand sea salt and that's kind of like just a go-to if I need something really crunchy, pork rinds are one of those things that you can't really eat a lot of. I don't know how to explain it, but they just give you that crunchy fix and salty fix, yeah, and they're just good to me. They're good Not for everybody, but I think pork rinds are a nice little win for for me when I need something sweet. I mean something salty, not sweet. I guess they do have some that are cinnamon sugar, but I wouldn't go that route. Another one that is in the sweet category that I have been like this is like my new jam.
Speaker 1:It's like an iced coffee protein smoothie and what I do is I take my iced coffee. I do prefer a stoke iced coffee. That's kind of my favorite. I've went back and forth with the wandering bear, but I'm back to stoke. It's just plain unsweetened iced coffee. I put ice in my blender, I put a little bit of organic cap and half and I put a full container of plain Greek yogurt and I blend it.
Speaker 1:Now if you have a protein powder that you like, you can add a little bit of that for some extra protein. But it's almost like a frappuccino. I mean, I put my iced coffee in there, so it's. It makes me feel like not as guilty about drinking so much coffee, because now I'm consuming my you know having protein with it. So it's kind of like my makeshift Protein shake.
Speaker 1:I don't typically use additional protein powder. I haven't really found a protein powder that agrees with my body. But if you have a favorite go-to protein powder hack, put some protein powder in there too. Pump it up with some more protein. You're not gonna go wrong, because if I put one Greek yogurt it's about 20 grams of protein. So if you want to have a little bit more, you want to have that as a meal supplement, I think go for it.
Speaker 1:You could also do, instead of iced coffee. Do some berries right. Some frozen berries in there? Great option, because berries are gonna be lower in sugar. They're, you know, have all these nut vitamins and nutrients in them, so it's kind of gonna be like a berry smoothie and again, you could also always add some extra protein powder.
Speaker 1:Last thing is something that you know. Maybe I don't, I don't really eat too often, but if I'm really just like you know, maybe it's the time of the month or maybe I'm just like feeling like I'm desperate for something sweet, you could get some strawberries and get like an 85% or higher dark chocolate, real clean chocolate bar. Melt it, drizzle it on there. I wouldn't suggest dipping the chocolate fully onto the strawberry. That might be a little bit too much. But if you're just drizzling it on there, it's kind of just enough of that chocolate flavor with the strawberry sweetness that it just does the trick right. So those are honestly, right now, my go-tos for snacks.
Speaker 1:If you have any additional additional things that you're kind of, you know, jamming with, please share them. I would love to hear. I could be reached in my email hot mess mom, hot the gmailcom. But yeah, I, these are my go-tos. They kind of keep me going because sometimes you just need a snack, right, like it's not all. You can only eat three meals a day and then you're not allowed to have anything else. Sometimes you just need something in between. So I hope this finds find you well. I hope this episode helped you in some way and I hope you guys have an amazing week. Let's talk to you next time. Thank you so much for tuning in and listening to this episode of hot mess mom health.
