Speaker 1:I too am a working mom of two little and self-proclaimed hot mess mom. All my life I struggled with trying to maintain a healthy weight and feel good in my skin. I could add yo-yo diet or to my resume. After I packed on 50 plus pounds with two pregnancies, I decided to change for good. I wanted to stop obsessing about food, stay consistent and set a good, healthy example for my kids, but I kept telling myself that I didn't have the time, the energy or accountability to stay on track. Until I changed my mindset and created one healthy habit at a time. And this podcast you will find simple, actionable steps so you can create a healthy lifestyle and get relief from the overwhelm. Spray that dry shampoo. Grab your iced coffee, turn up the volume and let's get healthy. Hey there, happy Monday and welcome back to another episode of hot mess mom help. Thank you for tuning in with me another week. I'm so grateful that you are here. I hope you guys are all doing amazing.
Speaker 1:It is the week of Valentine's Day, so I hope you guys all have something nice planned, whether you're doing something small for your kids, whether you have a date night with your husband or your spouse. Yeah, just share the love, spread the love. That's all we can do on Valentine's Day, right? Um? So today I wanted to talk to you guys about something that has been almost like a reoccurring thought for me, that's been coming up in my life. And you know, like I said in the intro, we all have done this thing where there's a certain event or there's something special that we're looking for in our life, or a special like date to something that's happening whether it's a vacation, a wedding, a trip, a graduation situation, whatever it is and we put ourselves on this mission to lose weight, to look better, to get healthier by Ex-date maybe it's three months, maybe it's next year and we do everything that we know to make the change. And a lot of times we're successful Right, like there's probably been many times, if you're listening to this, where you know you have a vacation coming up, or even for your wedding, and that was that's a big one for a lot of women. You know you had your wedding planned a year out. You made sure you fueled your body right, you went to the gym, you got your steps in, you drank all the water, you did all of the things. But then you reach that goal whether it's the wedding, the trip and Everything kind of goes to hell, for lack of better terms and you go right back into your old ways.
Speaker 1:And I'm not gonna sit here and say that I'm not guilty of this, because over the years I've absolutely been guilty of this. And the one thing that I know that I have gotten away from is Consistency. And I mean not right now in my life, but through the years. That was always my weak spot, where I'd be consistent to the goal, and then I would fall off and Looking back at my life and all of those achievements or things that I accomplished or things that I told myself I was gonna get this right. For it's so easy to go back when you reach that goal, because I think we all look at things as though they have an endpoint and for me there isn't one now and I think that is the biggest perspective mindset shift is that the rest of our lives is what we have to live. Now we all don't know how much time we have. However, I want to be the healthiest 80-year-old I can. I want to be out there playing pickleball or swimming or just enjoying my life. I want to have wellness at the end of my life and not be sick and not be able to explore the world and do all of those things that you look forward to at retirement.
Speaker 1:For me, consistency is 1,000 percent the key anymore, especially since this will be a whole other podcast episode. I am in perimenopause and that is extremely frustrating. However, what I know is that if I stay consistent, make some minor changes, that I will still end up better off at the end than I would have if I would have fallen off and just gotten frustrated. Or maybe on the flip side of that, maybe you had a goal that you wanted to be X amount of weight, x amount of body fat, do X amount of things before your wedding and you didn't get there. That feeling just spirals you back down to those bad habits.
Speaker 1:I think we have to look at consistency as small daily things that we can do to evoke the change we want in our lives for the rest of our lives, instead of a certain goal, a certain date, putting a timeline on it. We have our lives to live, and putting these deadlines on things puts unnecessary stress on us, which, if you are a crazy mom like me, you are under enough stress. We don't need any more stress. If you just look at things as staying consistent, you're doing the best you can every day. You're trying to drink all your water, you're trying to fuel your body good, you're trying to make the best choices that you can for that day and staying consistent with that. Knowing that there's going to be hiccups, knowing that you're going to eat a piece of cake, knowing that you're not going to make it to the gym every time you want it to, but staying consistent to that goal of ultimate health forever, is going to be a much better mindset shift than I need to get ready to be in a bathing suit in July.
Speaker 1:That word, consistency, comes up so much, and I think it's so. It's this core thing that we all get away from. Like I said, I know I have done it, but consistency, ultimately, is that thing that is going to give you the greatest amount of change. Short, small goals, consistently over time, will get you to where you want to go. So I hope this episode helps you kind of wrap your head around the fact that you know this is a long term life. This is not a short term fix. You know, health, wellness, weight loss it's not always going to be butterflies and roses. It's not always going to be perfect. But if you stay consistent on the path, even if you have a small hiccup, even if you have an injury, you are going to be so much better off long term than if you look at it just a short term fix to get to a minor goal.
Speaker 1:I'm going to end the podcast with a quote which I haven't done in a while, but I do love myself some quotes, and this is a quote from Dwayne Johnson and it says success isn't always about greatness, it's about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come. I believe that I believe we will all get to our goals faster and more efficiently if we stay consistent. I hope this episode finds you well. Have an amazing week. Thank you so much for tuning in and listening to this episode of Hot Mess Mom Health.
